Business card – or Handshake?

Here I find myself in contentious country… to hand out Business Cards or not? Here’s what I know works more than any ‘calling card’ you leave…

BUSINESS CARDS ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE FIRST IMPRESSION

So here you are, walking into a meeting with someone you’ve never met in person. For him or her (other than the obvious need for punctuality) personal presentation (dress attire, cleanliness etc.) are logged unconsciously into the mind. What you say or do now determines not only the level of interest you create but whether you are remembered…

THE HANDSHAKE, THE DIRECT LOOK, THE GENUINE ENQUIRY

Your job is not simply to sell an idea but implant it into your listener’s mind. Remember, your attention to their body language, particular likes and dislikes will pay dividends. Who needs a Business Card when a polite sms thanking them for their time tells them you follow through and (these days) also adds you to their contact list.

IF YOU HAVE BUILT TRUST, PEOPLE ACT

And in my experience, 90% of the time, they respond simply on that basis.
